What is Junior Rusalka?

Junior Rusalka is a youth Ukrainian dance training program operated by Rusalka Ukrainian Dance Ensemble in Winnipeg. It’s designed for dancers aged approximately 13–17 who show passion, dedication, and potential for performance at a pre-professional level.

What age group is eligible to join?

Junior Rusalka typically welcomes dancers in their early to mid-teens, often between the ages of 13 and 17. Admission is based on skill level, enthusiasm, and readiness for a more intensive dance commitment.

Do I need previous Ukrainian dance experience?

While prior Ukrainian dance experience is encouraged, it’s not mandatory. We look for strong foundational technique, performance skills, and the right attitude for working in a focused, team-driven environment.

How is Junior Rusalka different from Rusalka School?

Junior Rusalka bridges the gap between the school program and the main performing ensemble. Dancers attend regular rehearsals, receive more advanced training, and occasionally perform at Rusalka events. It serves as a developmental path toward joining the full ensemble.

What is the rehearsal schedule like?

Rehearsals are held weekly, with additional sessions closer to performances. Dancers are expected to maintain strong attendance and come prepared to learn and grow.

Is there a performance component?

Yes, Junior Rusalka dancers perform throughout the year at select events, festivals, and showcases, representing the spirit and energy of Ukrainian dance in Winnipeg.

How do I audition or apply?

To join Junior Rusalka, interested dancers can contact us directly or inquire through their current instructors. We often hold assessments or invite dancers for trial classes to determine placement.
